Just Fun This June

Summer is almost here and so is Father’s Day! That means there are lots of fun things happening in The Dalles and we don’t want our Celilo Inn guests to miss out on any of them! If you’re planning a trip to stay with us this month, be sure to check out some of the following events:

June 15th:  If you’re looking for a laugh you will not want to miss the stand-up comedy of David Crowe. He will be performing at The Pine’s Vineyard tasting room at 7:00pm. If wine, good times and laughter sound like something you would enjoy, be sure to get your tickets; $10 in advance or $15 at the door. June 16th: Who doesn’t love a good Farmers Market? Come join us for The Dalles Saturday Farmers Market in The Dalles City Park. The market is open 9:00am-1:00pm and is full of delicious produce, activities, music and much more. We guarantee you’ll enjoy this charming Farmers Market. 

June 17th: Make this Father’s Day extra special by taking him for a ride on the Mt. Hood Railroad express! This Father’s Day Mt. Hood Railroad will be hosting a Father’s Day Brunch ride through the Gorge. Your dad will be sure to love the food, scenery, train and your company! June 20th: With warmer weather in the air, being outside, especially in the evenings can be incredibly enjoyable. Come join us for Music in the Park at 6:00pm. Tumbledown House will be performing and the event is free. This is a fun event for people of all ages.

The Gorge Will Keep You Busy This May

If you’re staying at Celilo Inn this May you will find that there is plenty to do. With Mother’s Day coming up you may be scrambling to figure out what to give your Mom or maybe you want to do something extra special for her this year. No problem, The Columbia Gorge is the perfect place to take your Mom this month! Here are just a few of the fun events going on near Celilo Inn this month:

May 12th-13th: Maryhill Museum in Goldendale, Washington has been tirelessly working on their expansion. After months of construction, the Mary & Bruce Stevenson Wing is almost finished. Come join Maryhill Museum the weekend of Mother’s Day to dedicate the wing. There will be plenty of festivities and celebration! You won’t want to miss this once in a lifetime event! Tis the Season For Fun

One of the great things about December is that there is always something to do! If you’re looking to get out of the city for some down home fun, The Dalles and the surrounding Columbia Gorge communities have just the thing for you. Knowing that this is a busy time of year, we at Celilo Inn have provided you a list of some of the best events around town this month. Enjoy!

December 14th-18th, 20th-23rd:  One of the best things about Christmas is the stories this holiday brings to us. One of the most popular Christmas books, The Polar Express, is an example of the great books that surround this special season! This Christmas, make Mt. Hood Railroad’s Polar Express a family tradition. Passengers are invited to cozy up in their pajamas as Santa’s helpers read the story aloud as the train rushes towards the “North Pole.” Hot chocolate and cookies will be served on the ride, making for a very delicious train ride. Once the train arrives at the “North Pole” passengers will have the opportunity to meet Santa, they will also receive their very own Christmas Bell straight from Santa’s sleigh! December 15th: Who doesn’t love gourmet food and award-winning beer? Full Sail Brewery will be serving up a four course, deliciously gourmet meal. December 16th: It’s been said that laughter is the best medicine, and we want to give you a big dose of it! Stop by the Portage Grill to see a number of hilarious stand-up comedians. For more information call 541-298-3287.

There’s More Than Just Thanksgiving Going On In the Gorge This November!

Although smaller than a city, The Dalles and Hood River, Oregon have a lot going on! Sometimes bigger isn’t always better and this month the Columbia Gorge proves that by having countless events and activities ever week! If you’re staying at the Celilo Inn this month and are wondering what to do when you get here, this post will provide you with some great ideas. November 16th:  Love doing crafts? If the answer is “yes” than you’ll want to sign up for Country Living Class: Soap Making! Held from 6:30pm-8:30pm, you will learn how to create your very own soap out of olive oil, soy, and coconut oils as well as steamed distilled oils. All participants will leave with a recipe as well as their very own hand crafted soap. Participants must call 541-386-2055 to register for the class. The class will be held at Rockford Grange 4520 Barrett Dr,Hood River,Oregon, only 40 minutes from Celilo Inn!

 

November 17th:  With the cost of food nowadays, many people are growing their own. However, often times they grow too much and when this happens, they regretfully end up wasting much of it. If this sounds like you, The Dalles has just the thing! Stop by the Zion Lutheran Church between 1:00pm-3:30pm and learn how to preserve your food with their Fall and Winter Food Preservation Class: Food Drying Basics. The class will cover how to preserve fruits, vegetables, meats and even canned goods into delicious dehydrated treats. The class costs $10 for supplies and there is a $5 registration fee. November 17th:If you love dancing, or you’ve always wanted to learn you’ll need to stop by The Dalles Civic Auditorium. From 7:00pm-9:00pm, you can stop by for square dancing lessons! The first two lessons are free and any lessons after will be $2. The Dalles Civic Auditorium is located at   323 E. 4th St, only 10 minutes from Celilo Inn!

 

November 19th: Cozying up next to a campfire, while listening to soulful music is just what we need! Stop by the Imperial River Company for their 10th anniversary. You’ll get to hang out by the warm camp fire while listening to the popular singer songwriter Will West free of charge! The Imperial River Company is located at 304 Bakeoven Rd,Maupin,OR, a pleasant 55 minute drive from Celilo Inn.

 

November 19-20, 23, 25-27, 30th: For those who truly believe, come join Mt. Hood Railroad on the Polar Express! Based on the popular children’s book by the same name, the Polar Express is for children of all ages, from 1 to 92! A ride on the Polar Express includes hot chocolate and cookies. When the train reaches the “North Pole,” Santa will hand out a Christmas bell to every child. Everyone is encouraged to dress in their comfy pajamas. November 25th-27th: This event is perfect for wine lovers! During Thanksgiving Weekend, the wineries of the Columbia Gorge will be hosting at Open House! Fall Fun is Not Far From Celilo Inn

Many people associate The Dalles, Oregon with summer time. With windsurfing, hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting and many other outside activities, The Dalles is definitely the place to be in the summer. However, what many people don’t know is that the Gorge is also a great place to visit in the Fall! With many fun events in and around The Dalles, Celilo Inn guests have plenty to look forward to all year long, but especially in the weeks to come!  Here is a list of upcoming events that Celilo Inn guests can look forward to:

 

October 19th-20th:  Looking for a way to relax? Want to de-stress before the Holidays hit? Guests at Celilo Inn can not only relax in our luxurious rooms with complimentary wine but on October 19th and 20th they can also stop in at the Cascade Acupuncture Center for a FREE acupuncture session. Appointments can be made between 10:00am and 9:00pm on both days. Just be sure to call and schedule an appointment before hand as spots are sure to fill up! October 20th-22nd:  Theater lovers won’t want to miss out on the Columbia Center for the Arts production of Wait Until Dark. Wait Until Dark is a classic thriller that was a hit on Broadway! The play centers around a recently blind women whose husband has given her a doll. The doll happens to be filled with heroine and a trio of drug dealers attempt to get the doll back, using the woman’s blindness to their advantage. A nail biter of a play, this is a must see for Celilo Inn guests with a penchant for suspenseful stories and great theater! Tickets are available online at www.columbiaarts.org. October 21st: Like dancing or have wanted to learn?The Dalles is just the place to do it! Stop by Cherry Park Grange Hall on Friday nights at 7:00pm for free Line and Partner dancing lessons at 7:00pm. Lessons followed by open dancing until 10:00pm. A fun event for singles, couples and anyone that can’t resist tapping their foot when the beat moves them! Cherry Park Grange Hall is located at 1002 Lambert Street, only 5 minutes from Celilo Inn!

 

October 21st-22nd:  Wine lovers will be happy to hear that there is a new place to check out! This weekend AlmaTerra Wines will be opening their brand new tasting room in Bingen, Washington. Friday at noon there will be a ribbon cutting followed by live music, food and delicious wine until 9:00pm. Saturday the celebration continues with live music, wine, and food as well. AlmaTerra Wines is located at208 W Steuben Street, Bingen, WA, only  30 minutes from Celilo Inn.

 

October 22nd: Everyone loves an intriguing murder mystery! Join the Mt. Hood Railroad on October 22nd for their Murder Mystery Dinner Train. The four hour train ride includes amazing views, a four course meal and a fantastic “who-dun-it” performance by the Skamania Performing Arts Foundation. October 29th: Who says Halloween is just for the kids? Join The Pines Vineyard tasting room on October 29th for their annual Halloween Dance Party! Always a hit, come in a costumer and dance to fun, funky music by local band Funkship Columbia. This event pairs perfectly with Celilo Inn’s Halloween Weekend Package! October 29th: Wine lovers and Halloween enthusiasts will not want to miss out on the Sunshine Mill’s 2nd annual Hallo-Wine Ball! This fun event includes live performances from local musicians, food, wine, beer and scary movies! Come dressed in your best costume since there will be the ever popular costume contest! The Sunshine Mill is located just 5 minutes away from Celilo Inn at  901 E 2nd street.
