Solstice Wood Fire Café in Bingen, Wa was named Best Pizza in Washington in Food Network Magazine and for good reason! Solstice Wood Fire Café makes incredible pizza, but more than that, the atmosphere and other items on the menu make this restaurant worth visiting.

First of all, the pizza is gourmet, flavorful and fun. Gluten free crusts are available so you are sure to find something delicious for all your dietary needs. Second, the sandwiches, salads, pastas and entrees are incredible. Third, Solstice offers a wide variety of locally produced beer and wine.

Top 5 Local Restaurants

One thing our guests love about Celilo Inn is how close it is to a number of restaurants with a wide array of menus.  With so many delicious places to choose from, we decided to narrow it down and provide you with our Top 5 Restaurants list. It was a tough call as there are so many great eateries to choose from. While these are our top 5 favorites, we could have added so many more, but to keep things simple we decided on 5. Enjoy!

5. Corner Pocket

Located across the river in Lyle, Wa, Corner Pocket is a fun, casual place to visit. With billiards, burgers and beer this spot is incredibly popular amongst locals and guests alike. Not only is the service fast and friendly, the entire menu is reasonably priced. Who doesn’t love a delicious, cheap burger?!

4. Clock Tower Ales

Located right down the road from Celilo Inn in The Dalles, OR, Clock Tower Ales is definitely a guest favorite. Originally the Wasco County Courthouse, Clock Tower Ales has taken it over, keeping the historic elements in tact while truly making it their own! With live music, a wide variety of beers and a full menu of great food you can’t go wrong with Clock Tower Ales!

3. Baldwin Saloon

The Baldwin Saloon is another guest and staff favorite. Located in downtown The Dalles, this historic building use to be brothel back in the 1870’s. Now however it is home to pub that relishes its historic roots. A fun, old-timey vibe, the ambiance is cozy and comfortable. The food and drinks area absolutely delicious and the staff are very helpful!

2. The Stonehedge Gardens

If you’re in the mood for something a little romantic you will definitely want to check out The Stonehedge Gardens in Hood River, OR. With beautiful patio and indoor seating, this venue is absolutely breathtaking. On top of that the food is deliciously gourmet. If you have a refined pallet you will definitely want to dine here!

Located in the historic Columbia Gorge Hotel, Simon’s Cliff House is a delicious and fun place to visit. Frequented by fashion designer Valentino, you can dine in the Valentino lounge and take in the grand experience of it all! Not only does The Dalles offer breathtaking views, it also offers delicious, gourmet food. Celilo Inn is fortunate enough to be located so close to so many incredible restaurants. Our guests need not venture more than 5 minutes from the hotel before coming across a locally popular restaurant! One of our favorite restaurants is the Windseeker, which combines fresh, yummy food and exquisite views.

The Windseeker is located right next to the Columbia River, providing its patrons with spectacular views while they dine. Depending on the season, guests to the restaurant can sit inside or they can take in the surroundings more fully by sitting on the inviting patio.  In addition to the natural beauty of the Gorge, the Windseeker has planted beautiful gardens that patrons can stroll through after their delicious meal.

However, the Windseeker offers more than just great views, their food is exceptional as well.  Basing their dishes on the local cuisine, they specialize in mouth-watering seafood dishes, but if seafood isn’t your favorite flavor there is plenty more to choose from. Between crisp salads, juicy burgers, and flavorful pastas you’re bound to find something you love. Stop by on Sunday’s for their brunch where they serve gourmet omelets and Belgian waffles.

Time To Try the Taqueria!

Anytime you visit The Dalles, OR one thing is certain; you will be well fed! Celilo Inn is lucky to be surrounded by a variety of delicious restaurants, not just in The Dalles but in the neighboring town of Hood River as well.  One of these great restaurants you’re not going to want to pass up is the Hood River Taqueria.

The owners of the Hood River Taqueira come from Jalisco, Mexico. This helps make the overall dining experience a memorable one! Unlike many Mexican restaurants, Hood River Taqueria has a truly authentic feel and flavor to it. In addition to an authentic feel and flavor, the menu is quite extensive as well. Hungry patrons won’t have to look too hard to find something they are sure to love!

If seafood is what you’re craving, there are a number of options, such as the Camarones A La Veracruzana, which includes shrimp with green, yellow and red bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, sautéed with chipotle sauce.

You Don’t Have To Go To England To Enjoy An English Pub!

One of the great things about the Celilo Inn is that it is located near so many gourmet restaurants, breweries and wineries. Furthermore, not only are these restaurants gourmet, many have flavors from around the world, ensuring that our guests never go hungry and can always find something delicious to eat and drink. For our guests that are craving something from over the pond, we have just the thing! The Horse & Hound British Pub located 40 minutes away in Hood River, is a must for people looking for good bar food and even better beers.

With authentic British pub décor, when the Horse & Hound’s patrons step through the door it’s as if they’ve left the Columbia Gorge and entered the pub scene of a small English town. However, if the décor doesn’t convince you of the Horse & Hound’s authenticity, then the beers, ales and bar food will! They even serve Bass Pale Ale, the original British Pale Ale.

This week’s blog idea comes from one of Celilo Inn’s Twitter followers. When we tweeted requests for blog ideas, we couldn’t get this suggestion out of our head. One of the things The Dalles is known for is our outstanding restaurants and gourmet cuisine, so we couldn’t pass up the chance to let our readers know about Romul’s Italian Restaurant.

Tis the Season For Fun

One of the great things about December is that there is always something to do! If you’re looking to get out of the city for some down home fun, The Dalles and the surrounding Columbia Gorge communities have just the thing for you. December 14th-18th, 20th-23rd:  One of the best things about Christmas is the stories this holiday brings to us. One of the most popular Christmas books, The Polar Express, is an example of the great books that surround this special season! This Christmas, make Mt. Hood Railroad’s Polar Express a family tradition. Passengers are invited to cozy up in their pajamas as Santa’s helpers read the story aloud as the train rushes towards the “North Pole.” Hot chocolate and cookies will be served on the ride, making for a very delicious train ride. Once the train arrives at the “North Pole” passengers will have the opportunity to meet Santa, they will also receive their very own Christmas Bell straight from Santa’s sleigh! Big Jim’s Is A Big Hit

Diners have always held a place in our hearts (and our stomachs!) Perhaps it is the nostalgic quality about them, or maybe it’s the fact that the food, although simple, is just really that good. The Dalles is fortunate enough to have one such eating establishment in its own backyard! Big Jim’s Drive In, located just a few minutes down the road from Celilo Inn, is a must for guests that are craving some old school delicious food!

Established in 1968, Big Jim’s has been a town favorite for over 40 years! Known for their burgers and milk shakes, all their food is made from scratch. Although the main menu consists of burgers, fries and shakes, this is no fast food restaurant. Each mouth-watering menu item is made with the love, care and expertise.

Furthermore, although simple, the interior of Big Jim’s is comfortable, clean and the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly. If the quality food isn’t tempting enough to bring you in, than the customer service surely will! No matter what time of year you visit The Dalles, make sure to put Big Jim’s on your itinerary.

The Glass Onion: A Delicious Choice

The Columbia Gorge has may great restaurants throughout the area. With scrumptious restaurants located in The Dalles, and neighboring towns such as Hood River and Goldendale, WA, guests of Celilo Inn will never go hungry! One of such restaurants to check out is The Glass Onion.

The Glass Onion is one part cozy, one part unique, one part delicious and one part sustainable. As a renovated country house, and open for both lunch and dinner, the overall ambiance of the building is incredibly inviting any time of day. The interior is a hybrid of rustic charm and modern aesthetics. However, while a great vibe is important for repeat customers, what really brings people back is the quality of food, and The Glass Onion has plenty of that to offer!

The menu has a variety of both traditional items, such as the Angus burger on focaccia bread with aioli, as well as unique, signature items like the forest mushroom risotto with parmesan. There is also a kids menu for patrons twelve years or younger. One of The Glass Onion’s missions is to serve food made from locally grown produce. This means that every delicious item on the menu has been made in a sustainable way through supporting local farmers and fishermen.The Glass Onion also has an extensive wine and beer menu, all of which are made right here in the Columbia River Gorge!
