The Dalles Dam

One of the cool things about Celilo Inn is that almost every room has a magnificent view of the Columbia River and the historic The Dalles Dam. Construction on The Dalles Dam began in 1952 and it has been a staple in the community ever since. However, there’s more to The Dalles Dam then the dam itself!

 

 

If you’re visiting The Dalles and you want to check out The Dalles Dam up close and personal we recommend stopping by the Visitors Center right off of Brett Coldfelter Way.  If you want to check it out at your own pace however, spending a day at the Patterson Park Picnic Area, or renting one of our bikes and cycling down to the Water’s Edge to check it out from an incredible vantage point. However you want to experience The Dalles Dam is up to you, but one thing is certain, it’s hard to miss!

Solstice Pizza Is Scrumptious!

If you’re a guest at Celilo Inn and you also love pizza you’re going to want to check this out! Solstice Wood Fire Café in Bingen, Wa was named Best Pizza in Washington in Food Network Magazine and for good reason! Solstice Wood Fire Café makes incredible pizza, but more than that, the atmosphere and other items on the menu make this restaurant worth visiting.

First of all, the pizza is gourmet, flavorful and fun. Gluten free crusts are available so you are sure to find something delicious for all your dietary needs. Second, the sandwiches, salads, pastas and entrees are incredible. So delicious, you won’t want to stop eating, but we recommend you do take a breather in between those yummy bites to save room for dessert! Third, Solstice offers a wide variety of locally produced beer and wine.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place for families, date night, or catching up with friends.

August is finally here and that means squeezing in those last-minute vacations. Adventure Package

Whether you’re a whitewater rafting pro or a beginner you will love the Celilo Inn Adventure Package! For $300 you will receive one night in our King View Room with a panoramic view of the Columbia River, in addition to half a day of whitewater rafting on either the Deschutes or White Salmon River! After a day of adventure, come back and sip a glass of complimentary wine on our patio that overlooks the mighty Columbia River and The Dalles Dam.

Wine Tour Package

Wine tours are especially fun this time of year with such spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge, visible from almost every winery and vineyard. This package includes one night in the Deluxe King View Room, a guided wine tour of the best and award-winning local wineries and vineyards as well as 2 glasses of wine at check-in all for $275!

Room-ance Package

Come rekindle that flame with our popular Room-ance Package! With two to choose from you and your significant other will be sure to find the perfect package for you. The first package includes one night in the King View Room as well as a Wine Gift Bag which includes a bottle of either Celilo Inn White or Red, two Celilo Inn wine glasses and a box of dark chocolate all for $175! The second package includes one night in the Deluxe King View Room, a four-hour winery tour in the Columbia Gorge as well as the Wine Gift Bag all for $300.

Bicycles For Rent

Guests can now rent bicycles while they stay with us. Explore The Dalles at your own speed and in the fresh air. Bicycles are first come-first serve so be sure to speak to our friendly staff about reserving your bicycle!

Saturday Excursion

For a limited time Celilo Inn will be offering a complimentary Saturday Excursion. Guests will be picked up in the hotel lobby at 10:30am and shuttled to The Discovery Center where they will be able to purchase tickets at a reduced price. After exploring this amazing museum, guests will be shuttled to the Sunshine Mill Winery for some delicious wine tasting at a reduced price. Guests will then be dropped back off at the hotel around 1:30pm. The Saturday Excursion has been incredibly popular and it is a first come-first serve service so be sure to sign up on check-in!

Concerts

August 11th 6:00pm-9:00pm: Larry Adair’s Jazz Duo is back by popular demand! Come relax on our patio and listen to the fun and mellow sounds of Larry Adair!

August 22^nd 6:00pm-9:00pm: Come join us on our charming patio with stunning views of the Columbia River and The Dalles Dam. Solo guitarist Kit Garoutte will be performing. You won’t want to miss him!

August 29^th 6:00pm-9:00pm: John Harr is a local favorite, come sip wine, enjoy the sights and listen to the relaxing sounds of John Harr as he plays the acoustic guitar.

Top 5 Local Restaurants

One thing our guests love about Celilo Inn is how close it is to a number of restaurants with a wide array of menus.  With so many delicious places to choose from, we decided to narrow it down and provide you with our Top 5 Restaurants list. It was a tough call as there are so many great eateries to choose from. While these are our top 5 favorites, we could have added so many more, but to keep things simple we decided on 5. Enjoy!

5. Corner Pocket

Located across the river in Lyle, Wa, Corner Pocket is a fun, casual place to visit. With billiards, burgers and beer this spot is incredibly popular amongst locals and guests alike. Not only is the service fast and friendly, the entire menu is reasonably priced. Who doesn’t love a delicious, cheap burger?!

4. Clock Tower Ales

Located right down the road from Celilo Inn in The Dalles, OR, Clock Tower Ales is definitely a guest favorite. Originally the Wasco County Courthouse, Clock Tower Ales has taken it over, keeping the historic elements in tact while truly making it their own! With live music, a wide variety of beers and a full menu of great food you can’t go wrong with Clock Tower Ales!

3. Baldwin Saloon

The Baldwin Saloon is another guest and staff favorite. Located in downtown The Dalles, this historic building use to be brothel back in the 1870’s. Now however it is home to pub that relishes its historic roots. A fun, old-timey vibe, the ambiance is cozy and comfortable. The food and drinks area absolutely delicious and the staff are very helpful!

2. The Stonehedge Gardens

If you’re in the mood for something a little romantic you will definitely want to check out The Stonehedge Gardens in Hood River, OR. With beautiful patio and indoor seating, this venue is absolutely breathtaking. On top of that the food is deliciously gourmet. If you have a refined pallet you will definitely want to dine here!

1. Simon’s Cliff House

Located in the historic Columbia Gorge Hotel, Simon’s Cliff House is a delicious and fun place to visit. Frequented by fashion designer Valentino, you can dine in the Valentino lounge and take in the grand experience of it all! Between the ambiance and the award-winning menu you will not be disappointed by your dining experience!

Celilo Inn Disco Patio Party

Wanting to get our guests ready to boogie the night away at the Earth, Wind and Fire concert this past Saturday at Maryhill Winery, Celilo Inn hosted our first Disco Patio Party!

Starting at 3:30 on a beautiful, sunny afternoon, guests began to mingle on our patio. With spectacular views of The Dalles Dam and the Columbia River as the backdrop to a wonderful start to the night, guests were treated to complimentary burgers and wine. Chowing down on delicious burgers and our very own Celilo Inn Wine, guests were also able to sample Quenette Wine from local Sunshine Mill Winery.

In addition to burgers, views and wine, guests were invited to get down to their favorite songs from the 70’s. One thing is certain, Celilo Inn guests know how to have fun! From one party to another, guests boarded our busses at around 5:30 to head over to Maryhill Winery for the concert.

We love treating our guests to a good time and we look forward to our next Patio Party!

The Dalles Is Full Of History

One of the things we love about Celilo Inn is that it is located in a town so rich in history. Known as the last stop on the Oregon Trail, The Dalles is home to a number of well-preserved historic sites, some of which are only open during the summer. If you’re staying with us and want to see some of these sites for yourself you can find a complete list on www.historicthedalles.org. We however, highly suggest checking out the following:

The Fort Dalles Museum Surgeon’s Quarters is a must see. It was first occupied in 1850 where it was originally called Camp Drum. In 1853 the name would change to Fort Dalles. Now all that remains of Fort Dalles is the Surgeon’s Quarters building which has been incredibly preserved.

After visiting the Surgeon’s Quarters you can walk a block to the Anderson Homestead. The home is one of the original homes built in 1895 and the craftsmanship is quite impressive.

The Pioneer Cemetery is an impressive and peaceful place. When walking through it you can truly grasp the magnitude and hardship that these pioneers experienced while settling. It is also located off the East Scenic Drive, providing for beautiful views.

Everywhere you go in The Dalles you will be sure to run into a piece of history.

Summertime is Officially Here

With summer in full swing that means The Dalles is bustling with tons of summertime activities! Celilo Inn loves being located in an area that is never lacking for things to do and our guests seem to love that too. July 14^th: Since The Dalles is known for its great weather, it would be a shame not to take advantage of it. Come enjoy the weather and theater by participating in Plays in the Park. The Theater Company of The Dalles will be performing the classic Wizard of Oz in The Dalles City Park on Union Street. The show begins at 11:00am and is completely free. This is a great way to experience The Dalles. We highly recommend it!

July 16^th: Come celebrate Fort Dalles Days at the Fort Dalles Days Block Party on 707 Walnut Street! There will be live music, Blaze the Trail Blazer Mascot, a delicious BBQ, bouncing house, dunk tank, climbing wall and much more! This fun event will be from 4:00pm-10:00pm. All are welcome!

July 19^th-21^st: It’s that time of year again! Whether you’ve been going for years or this is your first time, the 47^th Fort Dalles Pro Rodeo never disappoints!
